Tradeoff between Map VLAN Tag and Tunnel VLAN Tag
Mar 10, 2020 · VLAN is a subcategory of VPN and VPN is a means of creating a secured network for safe data transmission. A VLAN is basically a means to logically segregate networks without physically segregating them with various switches. A VPN is used to connect two points in a secured and encrypted tunnel. Jul 28, 2015 · A VLAN is an extra 4 bytes of data in a data packet. Part of these 4 bytes is the “VLAN ID” which tells the device what VLAN that packet belongs to so it can be routed accordingly. VLAN IDs are 1-4096, that means you may have 4096 VLANs in a network, and as per my previous example, you can use any VLAN you like in that range. Q-in-Q tunneling and VLAN translation allow service providers to create a Layer 2 Ethernet connection between two customer sites. Providers can segregate different customers’ VLAN traffic on a link (for example, if the customers use overlapping VLAN IDs) or bundle different customer VLANs into a single service VLAN. Sep 11, 2018 · VLAN 40 is configured as the native VLAN for the IEEE 802.1Q trunk port from Customer X at the ingress edge switch in the service-provider network (Switch B). Switch A of Customer X sends a tagged packet on VLAN 30 to the ingress tunnel port of Switch B in the service-provider network, which belongs to access VLAN 40. You can also transport VLANs over wireless links and put multiple VLAN interfaces on a single wireless interface. Note that as VLAN is not a full tunnel protocol (i.e., it does not have additional fields to transport MAC addresses of sender and recipient), the same limitation applies to bridging over VLAN as to bridging plain wireless interfaces.

Jun 04, 2018 · Since firmware version 1.4.0, Vigor3900 and Vigor2960 support bridging the local network over the GRE tunnel to the remote network. When bridging over GRE function is enabled, all Ethernet traffic, including ARP, DHCP, IGMP, from the selected VLAN will be bridged to the other side of GRE tunnel, just as if there were a physical Ethernet cable between the two routers. This is because the native VLAN is left untagged, and when it hits the provider switchport in the dot1q-tunnel mode, it doesn’t double tag the packet (as there is no original VLAN tag to start with). To avoid complications, just tag his native VLAN using #vlan dot1q tag native when inserting his traffic into the QinQ VLAN.
@Datagram.Network Actually sorry but this tunnel is between a router and the Linux machine. Where on the router I did some modification as added extra VLANs(two more networks) to allow to pass the traffic through the same tunnel. Now when I saw I noticed this SYSTEM74#show crypto isakmp sa IPv4 Crypto ISAKMP SA dst src state conn-id slot status 10.15.60.2 10.16.70.2 AG_INIT_EXCH 2247 0 ACTIVE
Jul 07, 2020 · Although VXLAN is an extension to VLAN, VXLAN is quite different from VLAN in terms of virtual tunnel establishment. Now let's take a look at what VXLAN packets actually look like. Figure 1-5 VXLAN packet format (using the outer IPv4 header as an example) these features allows also to map a specific customer vlan to a service provider vlan and this would allow to use a single port as an 802.1Q tunnel for some vlans and as a "normal" port for other vlan(s) if you don't have these platforms you should deploy two links: QFX Series,EX Series,MX Series. VXLAN Benefits, How Does VXLAN Work?, VXLAN Implementation Methods, Using QFX5100, QFX5110, QFX5200, QFX5210, EX4300-48MP, and EX4600 Switches with VXLANs, Changing the UDP Port on QFX5100, QFX5110, QFX5200, QFX5210, and EX4600 Switches, Controlling Transit Multicast Traffic on QFX5100, QFX5110, QFX5200, QFX5210, and EX4600 Switches, Using an MX Series Router The tunnel destination is a well-known IPv4 or IPv6 address of an aggregation device. Tunnels can be configured to be part of a single VLAN—The CPE may insert a VLAN tag in the Ethernet frame. Only a single VLAN tag is supported. Tunnels can be configured with a statically configured, symmetric GRE key. Mar 10, 2020 · VLAN is a subcategory of VPN and VPN is a means of creating a secured network for safe data transmission.
