How does a static ip address work

Jun 01, 2015 · I need to know how the Public Static IP addresses work with Uverse. I placed an order for this hoping that it would simply be a static IP address assigned to my modem/router. However, upon reading through the posts here, it looks like you might have to assign public IP addresses to the workstatios behind the modem.

If you have a static IP address, then you have one which was manually configured for the device. That is different than one being automatically assigned to the device by the DHCP server. It is referred to as a “static” address because it does not change. Any device which uses an IP address can be configured to have a static IP address. And you won't need a static, it emails you when your IP Address changes and the new IP Address. Not sure that would work for a business use case. Dec 11, 2019 · Like I said all my devices work with assigned static IP address between 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.20 and dns of 255.255.255.0 The only thing that doesnt want to work is Windows 10. The exact same machine will work with the exact same ip configuration under ubuntu, and windows xp when booted on hirens boot disk.

This switch is working as the DHCP server in the network - but no Static address seem to work. Instead, the dynamic IPs are been used by the clients/pcs in this network. Amongst the clients, there are Windows 8, Windows Vista, Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 13.10, raspberry-pi raspebian,.. but there is no way that i can set any of then to a static IP.
